2010 ROCHESTER AREA BUILDERS COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS & CHAIRS
AMBASSADORS CLUB
The purpose of this committee is to establish personal contact with new members to insure that these companies are aware of and utilize the services and benefits available through Rochester Area Builders. They accomplish this through contacts during the first year of membership.

AWARDS COMMITTEE
Overseeing the acknowledgment of membership participation is the charge of this committee. This is done through nominating members for the Distinguished Service Award for Builders and Associates and the Rising Star Award. This committee also plans the annual Awards Dinner held in November.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE
This committee oversees the maintenance of our office building.

BUILDING SAFETY ADVISORY GROUP
This group of members meets with the Director of Rochester’s Building Safety Department on a regular basis to give input on the building permit and inspection process.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE
This committee plans the projects that allow the Association to interact with consumers, such as a Community Project, our Outreach to Youths including Scholarships, Speak to Schools program, and Job Shadowing, media advertising, and building bird feeders for a Ronald McDonald activity among others.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION COMMITTEE
Helping our members to deal with consumer problems is the duty of this committee. They have developed building standards and will encourage our members to follow them. When there are customer complaints, the committee will visit the home to decide if the work is within the standards or needs to be fixed.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE
This committee is charged with developing programs and seminars that will help to develop the professionalism and profitability of our members. Several all day education events are planned multiple in Rochester and one each in Red Wing and Winona.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The five officers of the Association meet to oversee the details of running the organization, to plan Board meetings, and to make recommendations to the Board of Directors.

FINANCE COMMITTEE
This group develops the annual budget for R.A.B., regularly reviews our financial status, and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.

GOLF OUTING COMMITTEE
The responsibility of this committee is to arrange our first golf outing of the year so that it provides an enjoyable day for our members and their guests as well as revenue for our association.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
This committee is charged with monitoring, initiating, and reacting to issues that are necessary to the maintenance of a favorable building environment. They serve as the primary review committee on all issues that affect our industry at all levels of government. They also develop ideas and oversee activities that can raise funds for our state PAC.

GREEN BUILDING COMMITTEE
This committee investigated various green building programs and recommended MN GreenStar as the program of choice for our Association. They provide updated “green” information to the members through regular programs and articles in the newsletter.

HOME SHOW COMMITTEE
This very important event in the RAB schedule requires many hours of dedicated work by this committee. They coordinate all aspects of the show in order to provide a professional stage for our members to present new products to the consumer. The event is held each February at the Mayo Civic Center.

MEMBERSHIP & RETENTION COMMITTEE
The purpose of this committee is to develop and implement an ongoing membership development program. They are responsible for new member recruitment through annual membership drives.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE
The Board appoints this group of members to contact people who might be interested in serving on the Board of Directors or participating as a committee chairperson. Committee is chosen by President.

PERSONNEL COMMITTEE
The task of this committee is to work with the staff in creating a favorable office environment in order that the work of the association can be carried forward. They also update personnel policies and procedures and interview employee candidates as needed.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE
This committee is responsible for arranging and coordinating all speakers, social sponsors, and special events related to the General Membership Meetings and Summer Networking Nights held the last Tuesday of each month. They also plan the annual Christmas Party held on the 2nd Friday of December.

PUBLIC WORKS ADVISORY GROUP
This group of members meets with the Director of Rochester’s Public Works Department each month to hear about the plans for the city of Rochester and to give input into those plans.

SHOWCASE COMMITTEE
This committee organizes and promotes both the Spring Showcase of Homes held in April and the Fall Showcase of Homes held in September in order to boost home sales and raise the level of recognition for our builder members.

SPIKE CLUB
A Spike is an honor position recognized nationally and gained through outstanding accomplishment in the area of membership development. Our Spikes work very hard to maintain our membership level by continuing to bring in new members and encouraging retention.

SPORTING CLAY SHOOT COMMITTEE
The responsibility of this committee is to arrange an activity for the members and their guests. This year the event will be a Sporting Clay Shoot to be held in September.

WEBSITE/TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
The Association’s website (www.RochesterAreaBuilders.com) is directed by this group of members. They make suggestions for content and organization. The committee also oversees the office technology to make sure that it is up-to-date.

The Association is pleased to have four active councils. The purpose of a council is to provide "like-minded" members an opportunity to further explore their interests. Each council has a separate membership application and charges a set amount of dues to cover the council's activities.
THE BUILDERS EXCHANGE COUNCIL
This Council provides access to commercial projects in our area. Members can view specifications and plans in our office and also online if they subscribe to the Plans Online Service. Members also receive the Weekly Bulletin giving them information on plans currently in the office as well as Planholders and lists of apparent low bidders.
Membership Dues are $250 for full members and $185 for associate members.
TRUSTEES OF THE BUILDERS EXCHANGE COUNCIL
The purpose of this group is to oversee the operation and development of the Builders Exchange Council. This group meets monthly to review the financial statement, approve membership applications, and make decisions on the policies and procedures of the Council. This group also does the planning for the annual golf outing for members and guests of the Builders Exchange.
CHAIR: Pete Lang membership through election
Trustees meet monthly on the Monday before the 2nd Tuesday at 3:30pm

COMMERCIAL BUILDERS COUNCIL
The members of this Council are interested in the areas of commercial construction and development. They support one another and provide information to the community.
Membership Dues are $150 for members.
Meetings are held at 7:30am on the 1st Wednesday of February, April, June, August, October, & December.

The members of this committee oversee the activities of their Council. They review the financial statement, approve membership applications, and plan the general meetings for the group.

DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
The members of this Council are interested in the areas of industrial, commercial, and residential development. They will support one another and provide information to the community.
Membership Dues are $25 for members.

Council meets at 12:00 Noon on the 2nd Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, & November for lunch and a speaker

REMODELERS COUNCIL
The goals of this Council are to provide education for themselves in various areas of remodeling and to promote their expertise to the consumer. They also reach out to the community through community projects, the Wrong Way House, and a display of information showcased at area banks. They send packets of information at no charge to the public. Their motto is “Remodel it Right!”
Membership dues are $95 for members.
Meetings are held at 12:00 Noon on the 3rd Tuesday of January to May and Sept to Nov.
The Picnic and Holiday Party are held on the 3rd Tuesday of July and December at 5:30pm.

The members of this committee oversee the activities of their Council. They review the financial statement, approve membership applications, and plan the general meetings for the group.

REMODEL IT RIGHT DISPLAY COMMITTEE
This committee works to create a display to represent the members of the Remodelers Council at the annual Builders Home Show.
CHAIR: Mark Nelson - Committee meets May through July & September 1st Thursday at 7:30am
REMODELERS COUNCIL GARAGE SALE COMMITTEE
This committee works to organize the Garage Sale fundraiser for the Remodelers Council that will provide an opportunity for the members to work together to raise funds in order to advertise to make consumers aware of their products and services.
CHAIR: Kevin Reckinger - Committee meets April through July & September 4th Thursday at 8:00am
REMODELERS MARKETING COMMITTEE
This committee works to find new and innovative ways to market the remodeling portion of the construction industry.
CHAIR: Keri Reiland Committee meets monthly 2nd Tuesday at 10:00am
REMODELERS TOUR COMMITTEE
Every year the Council sponsors a tour for the public of remodeled projects by our members. It is held on the 1st weekend in October. This group oversees the planning of this event by soliciting participation from Council members and organizing advertising and promotion.
